Cyprus Paradise Experts Recommend
When it comes to sightseeing, you don’t have to look far. Zeytinlik village itself is one of the oldest villages in Cyprus, formerly known as Templos, due to the Templar Knights rumoured to have lived there in the Middle Ages. The fact that Zeytinlik village leads to one of the three exits of St.Hilarion Castle is further proof that backs the theory of the Templar Knights once residing in the beautiful area. St. Hilarion Castle is still to this day a majestic attraction definitely worth seeing. Only about a ten minute drive away, it boasts breathtaking views (and lots of stairs!). It’s one of the most complete castles of Kyrenia, stunningly set on a rocky crag with fascinating ruined turrets, towers and windows. Rumour also has it, that it created the inspiration for both the fairy-tale castles of King Ludwig in Bavaria and Walt Disney’s Snow White. If you happen to be holidaying during the glorious days of spring, the surrounding landscape is charmed with a beautiful array of wild, exotic flowers.
If it’s shops, restaurants, cafes and bars you’re after, Kyrenia Town is a five minute drive from the hotel, home to all the central amenities you could wish for. The historical harbour offering more of a traditional variety along with gorgeous views, traditional boat rides and historical museums is only a further 5 minutes away. There are also plenty of lovely places to enjoy a lunch with a view along the harbour, Carob is one of our favourites. If you have a car, just on the main road behind the hotel, another gorgeous restaurant is situated in the mountains called Ezic and in addition to the Archway; it is also a popular choice for the residents of Kyrenia. It also boasts a children’s play area to entertain the kids whilst you eat. Further down the same main road, you can also find a state of the art gym called MPower and a fantastic bowling centre called Kings, which also has an amusement area for children downstairs.
About 5 minutes east of Kyrenia is a small sandy beach, where rocks line the shore. Diana beach charges a small seasonal entrance fee and sun loungers and jet skis can also be rented. Snacks and drinks are also at obtainable during the summer months from their small restaurant. Catalkoy beach and Alagadi beach (where you can also witness sea turtles hatching in season), are more popular choices, but slightly further away. If you happen to be in the harbour for the day and fancy a quick dip, there is always The Dome Hotel, unique being the only hotel in the harbour that has access to its own private beach (entry fee required). Ask the friendly receptionist or your knowledgeable Tour Rep for further details and help with directions.
Within a beautifully designed area of natural stone walls and features, the glistening pool sits on a pristine, elevated terrace, offering a sense of privacy and seclusion, guests can enjoy a peaceful swim in the tranquillity of the hotel’s surroundings. The pool also offers a separate children’s section.
Daily breakfast is served at the Archway À la Carte Restaurant, next door to the hotel. Lunch and dinner can also be enjoyed at this authentic restaurant offering refined flavours of Cyprus cuisine and beautiful views. The Archway is renowned for offering a quality level of traditional choices within a typical Cypriot setting and is therefore also popular with the discerning residents of Kyrenia.
